The recovery time with laparoscopic appendectomy is hardly about 2 days hospitalisation or of late people have been sending patients on the same day after surgery. Moreover if there is a complex laparoscopic appendectomy that has happened for a patient, the patient would have had to stay back for almost 3 to 4 days. The recovery stay is not related to the laparoscopic procedure as such, but because of the disease process. There are lot of instances where the appendix has ruptured, there are lot of adhesions, we would have to release the adhesions, as result the intestinal motility would be decreased. It is called as paralytic ileus. The patient will not be able to pass motions or take anything orally. As a result of which he will have to stay back for IV fluid supplementation.
