Don't tell recruiters your number and here's why...

Within the first 30 min phone screen all you've had is a surface level conversation with one person. You haven’t met the hiring manager, you haven't met the team, you don't know the team culture, You don’t know if the job description was written by the manager or if it’s just generalized language that means nothing, and you don’t know if you'll be working 50 hours a week or 100 hours a week...

When a recruiter ask you for a range, push back and ask for their range. If they disclose the full range from lowtohigh and its within your range, just tell the recruiter that the range is within your range. If they continue to push for a number, then your job is to push back again and tell them you don't have enough information due to the factors listed above.
