After the terrifying Chernobyl nuclear accident, the technicians and authorities working on the site had to face a potentially much worse threat: a hypothetical massive steam explosion caused by the connection between the reactor core, melted and naked, and an immense accumulation of water that under the subsoil of the nuclear power plant was rising in level. At that time, the decision was made for three men to enter inside the plant to open some valves that would relieve that water pressure.

The danger in case of not being successful was to cause a gigantic explosion, theoretically calculated in hundreds of kilotons, which could have destroyed life forever, due to the expansion of radiation, in the area, in the city of Kiev, and even throughout Europe, depending on who did the math.

To stop such a threat, three men raided the plant with only wrenches and a flashlight. They were successful in their mission, and thus the plant was able to drain before it was too late. Popular culture has almost immediately given up on the three heroes who had to face inhuman radiation, but... what really happened to them? This is their story.
