On February 24th 1978, five young men from the Yuba City, CA area drove up to Chico for a basketball game. The inexplicable series of events which followed their departure from that sporting event, from a senseless turn off of the highway to the abandonment of their vehicle at nearly 5000' in elevation, and especially the total disappearance of the fifth member of the group, have puzzled professional and amateur investigators alike for decades; some have even called it "the American Dyatlov Pass". If there were a simple explanation, we'd all know it by now. If there were a convoluted explanation, someone would've probably put it out there.
