Applying to medical school can be a daunting task. So in this video I try to give some tips for premedical school students on how to optimize their summers so they can be a stronger applicant for medical school. My tips to premed students are as follows:

1. Research positions
More likely to find paid positions if you apply to an established research program.
Pro of coldemailing someone at your school: you may be able to continue the work during the following school year
If your goal is to publish something, be sure to look up the PI and see how many publications that lab has published in the last couple years

2. Volunteer at hospitals, hospice, nursing homes, rehabs

3. Contact doctors offices for shadowing opportunities or working in some capacity (receptionist, scribe, etc)

4. EMT (if you have couple years before applying and have the opportunity to work or volunteer as an EMT)

5. Reading the verbal section of the MCAT can be challenging so improving reading skills can be really helpful. Try reading the following items on a regular basis: The Economist, The Atlantic Monthly, and the New Yorker

6. If you already have your acceptance, relax and have fun, travel, read for pleasure
