Erections can happen at the doctor's office and during an annual physical exam. Many adolescents are worried that they will get an erection during their physical exam and it's important to remind them that sexual health care is important and being embarrassed or worried about being embarrassed due to a natural bodily function is no reason to avoid their annual physical exam. Talk about the importance of preventive care and symptomatic care and why the first physical exam can be an opportunity to begin developing the communication skills around taking care of one's sexual and reproductive health.
