In this short video, we discuss the Summerian civilisation in the lower Mesopotamian region modern day Iraq.

Generally regarded as the world's first human civilisation, city's like Uruk and Ur arrive around 4100BC and contained as many as 80,000 inhabitants.

The Sumer people built large mudbrick temples called Ziggurats, invented writing, had arranged marrigaes, and drank beer. They had a complex political system headed by a warrior king called a Lugal, and kept slaves.

They even wrote the world's first piece of literature in the Epic of Gilgamesh.
