There are a lot of factors at play with a portrait, like lighting and posing, but nothing causes us to shriek “WOAH is that really how my face looks??” like the camera’s lens. Even if you were paying attention in high school physics on the day you covered reflection, refraction, and optics, it can be hard to understand why you look amazing in one photo and like your face has been stretched and ironed out in the wash in another.
