Artist Meredith Gaston and her husband Kevin Lindemann want a modern landscape to surround their house in Victoria’s Mount Eliza. Instead they have a neglected 40yearold garden full of weeds and disease riddled trees.Meredith has images of long areas of grasses, wild flowers and lots of gravel while Kevin prefers dramatic architectural plants and spiky succulents. The space is big enough for both, but their budget isn’t. Plus, much of the oldfashioned existing garden will have to be demolished.With the discovery they must remove many more trees than they anticipated and the bank nipping at their heels, will they find the courage to strip back, gouge out and remake their space to create a contemporary Australian garden?
