We knew it’d be good. We didn’t know it’d be this good. The swell that doubled down along the Australian east coast on the weekend had been lurking around the forecast charts for at least a week. It looked like a classic midwinter reversal of form — a swell from the east after three months of south? This is kinda predictable, we all hope for it. But as the winds began to build in the northern Tasman Sea last Thursday night, some kind of switch was flicked, and within 48 hours, everywhere from Straddie to Sydney was lighting up. It was the kind of surf people travel thousands of k’s to find, yet here it was, right on everyone’s doorsteps. Here’s a look at 2024’s best weekend so far.
