Planting a fig tree can be done at any time of the year. But be careful of periods that are very warm and dry. Avoid transplant shock and plant to gain the biggest benefit. That's why I'm planting in the fall. It's cool, there's plenty of water and the trees will dig themselves in really well before spring the following season.
