American Express has cards that many people see and want to add to their wallets even if they don't know if it is the best fit for them. The prestige behind Amex makes them very alluring, and while their cards are great they aren'f for everyone. I believe that you should wait to get American Express cards because most people don't know how to get good value from the points. Once you understand how to redeem the points in a way that vastly improve your travel experience, that will be the time to get an Amex card but until then, get other points and miles cards first because their redemptions are more forgiving for those without a ton of knowledge of their program.
