Alfred Hitchcock is one of the most well known directors in film history. Plus, he was the king of the 'director's cameo'. Often inserting himself into films in truly genius ways. About an hour into the 1946 film, Notorious, Hitchcock appears in a brief yet wickedly clever cameo. I think it's a magnificent movie moment.

That man there is Alfred Hitchcock, one of the most wellknown directors of all time, performing one of his iconic cameo appearances. About an hour into the 1946 film, Notorious, Hitchcock appears in this brief cameo. Now, director cameos aren’t hugely rare. To this day, director’s still slip themselves into their work.s

But what I think is so great about this particular cameo is how perfectly it collides the story. In an effort not to explain the whole plot of Notorious, I’ll just say that these two characters have stolen the key to the wine cellar of this fancy house and want to sneak away to secretly investigate it. And that’s why I think this is such a cool cameo. Both as the director of the movie and as a literal party guest in the movie, Alfred Hitchcock is actively making things more difficult for the characters. As the director, he’s crafting the story that is creating obstacles that the protagonists while need to overcome to achieve their goals. And as a party guest in the movie, well he’s just knocking back champagne like it’s just gone midnight on New Years Eve.

And that is a Magnificent Movie Moment.
