Have you ever tried to join some numeric data to a shapefile (or other type of geo file) in QGIS and then tried to map it but it didn't work? Well, you're not alone. In fact, this kind of thing can happen to anyone in any GIS software so it's good to know some ways to get around it if it happens to you.

In this video I show you what happens and what I do when I join data to a shapefile but the numeric data comes through as a string rather than numbers. This is when QGIS treats numbers as if they are text and then won't let you map them.
