Where is the best and worst air in Prague

Fog, dust and smog. The sad reality of most big cities. But what about our capital? In the latest episode of Live Prague, we show you the parts with the cleanest air and the ones best avoided.

There are basically two sources of air pollution in Prague. The first is the cement factory in Radotín, the incinerator in Malešice or the sewage treatment plant in Prague 6.

The second significant polluter is car traffic in Prague. Incidentally, the people of Prague are ranked first in Europe in terms of the number of cars per person, even though we have one of the best and constantly developing public transport systems. The D metro line is coming (we have dedicated a separate video to it:    • Kdy bude Metro D a kudy povede?  ), tram routes are being added (   • Nové tramvajové tratě v Praze: Na kte...  ), and trolleybuses are also set to return (   • Návrat trolejbusů do Prahy. Kudy poje...  ).

Given the heavy car traffic in the city, it is no surprise that the worst air is breathed by Prague residents in the surroundings of the motorway, from the Nusel Bridge to Holešovice, then around the Prague and City Ring Roads, 5 May Street and around the D1 motorway in Chodov.

And where is the best air in Prague? In the centre of Prague, it is surprisingly Petřín, which, apart from clean air, also boasts a number of interesting sights (see them in the video:    • Petřín skrývá mnohá tajemství. Co jst...  ). From the Prague districts, it is Košíře, Motol, Břevnov, Veleslavín, Vokovice or Hanspaulka, but also Kunratice, Bohnice and Klánovice.

So how did the district you live in fare? And how do you think the air cleanliness in our capital city could be improved? Let us know in the comments!

You already know how it is with air. But what about the water we drink in Prague? Where does it come from, why isn't it from the Vltava River, and in which parts of Prague have the best one? Find out in one of our earlier videos:    • Kde se v Praze bere pitná voda a proč...
