I returned to Terceira not by choice, but because of a flight connection, which gave me the perfect opportunity to visit the island's secondlargest town of Praia da Vitória, just a few kilometers east of the airport.

Here, I enjoyed a great afternoon walking along its majestic curved beach and poking around it's minute Cidade Velha (Old Town), featuring two candycolored, whitewashed churches and some incredible cobblestone pedestrian streets.

If you're looking for a lowkey, touristfree place to base yourself on Terceira Island, this is a good option compared to the hustle of Angra do Heroismo.
