We sat down with Venom cocreator Todd McFarlane to dive into the complex history behind Venom’s origin!

Throughout the history of Venom, one constant has remained: Eddie Brock, Venom, was cocreated by David Michelinie and Todd McFarlane. But that’s only telling one small part of Venom history. The Todd McFarlane Venom we know was built on storylines and concepts going back at least a decade, and when it comes to Venom, Marvel has several creators involved in the creation of the black costume and symbiote suit.

We might be marveling at the Tom Hardy Venom performance in every new Venom trailer, Venom clip, and Venom scene from the Venom movie, but we wouldn’t even have see a Venom 2018 trailer for one of the greatest SpiderMan villains in his own movie if not for the Venom origin established in Marvel by everyone who can claim to be a Venom creator. A lot of writers and artists were behind the creation of the symbiote Spiderman and his Spider Man black suit, so even though two people were behind Eddie Brock, the story goes much deeper.
