When farright parties operating in Europe are mentioned, the first thing that comes to mind is the National Union in France. When it comes to farright politicians, it is undoubtedly Marine Le Pen, the daughter of the founder of this party, JeanMarie Le Pen. The name, whose house in Paris was bombed when he was only 8 years old and who narrowly escaped death with his two sisters, grew up in the shadow of political debates and scandals. At the age of 18, he inherited his father's legacy and joined politics and the National Front. However, over the years, he charted a completely different path for himself in politics. Le Pen, who became the leader of the National Front in 2011 and was involved in corruption allegations and scandals, did not give up these policies even though she wanted to change the farright image of the party. In his first years of entering politics, he moved away from the harsh and marginal discourses of the far right and adopted a populist and nationalist language. However, this approach soon gave way to Islamophobia, antiimmigrant sentiment and harsh criticism against the European Union.

Le Pen, whose performance against Emmanuel Macron in the 2022 French Presidential elections was an important turning point in her political career, made a surprise decision at the party congress held in 2022 to capture young voters and handed over the chairmanship of the party to 28yearold Jordan Bardella. The National Union became the third group with the most seats in the European Parliament elections on 69 June 2024. This result showed the continuing influence of the rightwing populist movement in French politics.
