National hero, military genius... heretic or witch? Joan of Arc lived a full life!

Celebrated and condemned in equal measure during her lifetime, Joan of Arc rose from genuine obscurity to lead the French army to victory against the powerful English invasion force during the Hundred Years War (13371453). She became one of the principle advocates for the coronation of the French King Charles VII and was bravely wounded in battle several times.

Yet she was also declared a heretic and condemned to death by a court of French theologians and most famously, burnt at the stake at only 19 years old.
