The earliest rendition of a fully useable Alphabetic script was from the Canaanite city of Ugarit (just north of Arvad of the coast of the Levant in modern day Syria), just before the bronze age collapse 1300–1190 BC. The Ugaritic alphabet is the direct ancestor of the later Phoenician alphabet which they exposed the entire Mediterranean world to and other Alphabetic scrips evolved from thatOne of which I am using now to write this comment
