About 58 percent people in India are concerned about fake news on the internet, as per the Digital News Report 2024 published by Oxford University’s Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism earlier this month.

The report, based on a survey conducted by the Reuters Institute in collaboration with the Asian College of Journalism, said that a staggering 42 percent people in India are comfortable with news content produced using AI, with little human oversight, as opposed to the corresponding number being 10 percent in the UK and 23 percent in the US.

To analyse the report’s findings and their significance for the Indian news industry, Newslaundry and Reuters Institute organised a panel discussion with Nic Newman, senior research associate at Reuters Institute, Rupa Jha, CEO and cofounder of Collective Newsroom, Pooja Prasanna, editorial head at The News Minute, and Seema Chishti, editor at The Wire. The discussion was moderated by Mitali Mukherjee, director of journalist programmes at Reuters Institute.
