Hello everybody! How are you? Welcome to Paredes, a city close to Porto, in Portugal. Today, we'll explore the advantages and disadvantages of living here and help you decide if this county is the right place for you.

Paredes is a city with a population of just over 84,000 inhabitants. In recent years, there has been a slight decrease of 2.1% in the population, due to emigration, especially among younger people, who seek better financial opportunities abroad, in countries such as Germany, France, England and others. Another contributing factor is declining birth rates and an aging population.

Located in the north of Portugal, Paredes is part of the Porto district and is just 30 kilometers from the heart of Porto. It is approximately 300 kilometers from Lisbon and approximately 70 kilometers from Braga.

The average temperature in summer is 22°C, with the highest recorded temperature of 35°C in 2018. In winter, the average temperature is 12°C, with the lowest recorded temperature of 4°C in 1985. So temperatures are unlikely to drop below freezing, but humidity can make it feel a little colder.

Paredes offers a peaceful lifestyle, ideal for those who want to enjoy walking parks and a slower pace of life, whilst remaining close to Porto. The city has several parks, gardens and green spaces for walking, cycling and picnics. You can also explore museums, monuments and art galleries to learn about local history and culture.

For culinary enthusiasts, Paredes is known for its traditional dishes such as 'Paredesstyle cod,' chestnut soup, roast lamb and duck rice.

Regarding transport, Paredes has a train station, providing easy access to neighboring cities, such as Porto, Braga, Viseu, Aveiro, Coimbra and Vila Real. The city has a network of public and private schools, with emphasis on the Escola Básica e Secundária de Paredes. Although Paredes does not have its own university, its proximity to Porto facilitates access to higher education.

The cost of living in Paredes is relatively lower, especially in terms of renting and purchasing property, compared to Porto. Housing costs are a significant factor in cost disparities between municipalities in Portugal.

Therefore, if you are considering living in a city close to Porto, with lower housing costs and a high quality of life, Paredes could be a great option. However, it is essential to consider your specific needs and budget when deciding on the right place to live in Portugal.

Choosing the right city is a vital step in your journey, but there are many other considerations when moving to Portugal.
