In the 1970s, 80s, and 90s trijet passenger planes were a core part of many commercial airline fleets. Aircraft like the McDonnell Douglas DC10 and MD11 had their role as highcapacity, longhaul jets for airlines like American Airlines, Swissair, Garuda Indonesia, and more. But while twinjets, and to a lesser extent quadjets, have been updated and rereleased as newer versions over the last few decades, why are trijets no longer inproduction? Let’s find out.
