According to a study conducted by two Cornell University Biologists, morning sickness is an important and natural defence mechanism to protect the developing foetus from harmful chemicals and foodrelated illnesses. The same mechanism pushes pregnant mothers to avoid certain foods (like potentially dangerous meats and vegetables) replacing them with blander, safer alternatives.

The study suggests morning sickness serves a useful function, evolving to protect mothers and embryos from eating things that may be dangerous.
