A brief introduction about who I am and what I do.

00:13
Start with Yourself: Before choosing a specialty, reflect on who you are, your preferences, and the things that come most naturally to you.

00:42
Procedural vs NonProcedural: Know that there are many procedural specialties in medicine that do not necessarily involve operating on people. Think about which you'd prefer and seek exposure when possible.

01:56
When considering multiple options for a significant life decision, I have found it helpful to use a decisionmaking matrix, to decide.

02:51
Feeling like a wellrounded physician was personally important to me, and anesthesiology is a field that lends itself to a broad knowledge base. This is the first reason why I gravitated toward this specialty.

03:27
Anesthesiology is one of many procedural specialties in medicine that engages your mind as much as your technical skill. I enjoy the process of going from a novice to a beginner at a challenging skill, so it felt natural to me to work with my hands.

03:59
Going through medical school, I found that the days I enjoyed the most were days when I was moving around, working with my hands, and not feeling stuck behind a computer screen. As such, going into a field with minimal notetaking really appealed to me

04:34
Personally, I felt eager to be a practicing physician, so one thing I considered was residency programs that took less than 5 years to complete.

05:11
Fellowship training is something I wanted to consider once residency is over. All residency programs have varying lengths of fellowship training, but anesthesiology has oneyear fellowships across the board. Check out the video ‪@MaxFeinsteinMD‬ made with the link above!

06:31
In lifeordeath situations, I saw anesthesiologists be an integral part of the medical team, providing lifesustaining treatment. This is something that genuinely appealed to me, and I wanted to be a part of my career.

07:41
Anesthesiologists are some of the most hardworking people on the perioperative care team, but I was drawn to how relatable they were.
