Why Iran Chose The F-14 Over The F-15

/ fightson   Iran is the only other nation beside the USA to buy the mighty F14 Tomcat. But what's particularly unusual about this is the story about how this purchase came about.

The regularly accepted story was that the Shah of Iran ultimately chose the Tomcat because it won a spectacular flyoff against an F15 Eagle at Andrews Air Force base in July 1973.

While many US officials and Navy officers still believe that this stunning show put on by Grumman test pilots influenced the Shah’s final decision to order the F14, it turns out this was NOT the truth, as explained in the 2004 book "Iranian F14 Tomcat Units In Combat" written by Tom Cooper & Farzad Bishop & illustrated by Chris Davey, and published by Osprey Publishing.

In this video, I discuss what REALLY happened to help the Shah make the decision to go with Team Grumman.

Note: All screen shots of IRIAF Tomcats were made in DCS. Yes, I know it's an F14B and the Iranians bought the A model. I could not find an A model skin, hence the "inaccurate" images used. My apologies.
