When narcissist attempts to extract narcissistic supply or to engage in oneupmanship by talking or by acting, s/he dissociates the environment: forgets other tasks, fails to register what others are saying, is nonresponsive to cues and stimuli, and behaves asocially or even antisocially. This is known as hyperfocus, (negative) flow, or attentional narrowing.
