Why No FRIA in my Backyard?

In this video I will discuss why no FRIA in my backyard. A FRIA is an FAA Recognized Identification Area where no remote ID equipment is required to fly an RC model airplane, drone or helicopter. FRIAs are typically located at AMA club flying sites. The FAA's fina remote ID rule came into effect on Sept 16, 2023. However, for a range of technical issues (primarily the availability of remote ID modules), the compliance date for remote ID is now March 16, 2024.

In short, the FAA wants the maximum number of RC pilots to have remote ID installed so the FAA can see unmanned aircraft in the National Airspace System. Have large number of FRIAs in the country, with these models not having remote ID, would defeat the overall goal of the remote ID ruling.

Also there is no relation between uncontrolled airspace and remote ID. Remote ID is a security issue, airspace management is an air traffic control issue.
