Putin's war in Ukraine is reversing decades of military, diplomatic, and nuclear progress, including the way countries like Russia or the US, but increasingly like China, to approach international security. The Kremlin's military campaign against Kyiv is challenging, and in some ways even reversing international law and the norms and assumptions around it. Moreover, it is forcing many in NATO, in the West to reconsider and whether this conflict could be have been avoided and if one in Asia with China could still occur.

In this part 2 of a 2part interview, l am joined by the esteemed Sir Lawrence Freedman, Emeritus Professor of War Studies, King's College London. Elected a Fellow of the British Academy in 1995 and awarded the CBE (Commander of the British Empire) in 1996, he was appointed Official Historian of the Falklands Campaign in 1997. In 2003, he was awarded the KCMG (Knight Commander of St Michael and St George). In June 2009 he was appointed to serve as a member of the official inquiry into Britain and the 2003 Iraq War.

We discuss the legacy of NATO and its relationship to Russia, whether it and the West have more responsibility for current events than many like to admit, the risks to law of war, and the deepening yet poorly understood threat of China in the context of Ukraine, Russia and longterm grand strategy of geopolitics.
