Why The F-117 Is Still Flying?

Follow
Awl You Need To Know

After the introduction of the F22 Raptor in late 2005, the US Air Force deactivated the F117 Nighthawk in 2008, but just two years later, in 2010, F117 spottings became more frequent. Actually, what you don't know is that the F117s were never retired at all, they were put on a status where they could be called back to service if needed. The most wellknown purpose for the F117's continued usage is as an aggressor aircraft. Let me simplify this for you. Look, the F117 has a lower RCS than the B2 stealth bomber and the F22 raptor, and therefore they're now being used as "the enemy" in training exercises with current frontline US Air Force aircraft like the F15s and F16s. Last year, F117s and F35s were spotted in a mysterious mirrorlike skin, which may have been an experimental treatment to reduce the aircraft's infrared signature. The F117s have also taken part in Red Flag exercises, and the US Air Force has also acknowledged that they're still flying, as it didn’t make sense to deny it with all the sightings of the jet.
