2019’s HELLBOY, the latest adaptation of Mike Mignola’s iconic comic book series, and a reboot of the film franchise as established by Guillermo Del Toro, with David Harbour replacing Ron Perlman in the lead role, and with Neil Marshall stepping in for Del Toro, was a major disappointment. Disliked by critics and divisive for the IP’s fanbase, it suffers from a great many problems with its writing, characterisation, tone, and overall vision. It would have been better off left in development hell.
