With DDay fast approaching, the German military scrambled to mobilise all reserves of manpower and weaponry. Within the High Command a search had begun to produce a "wonderdrug" that would help fuel the German defense of the Fatherland. They had previously relied on methamphetamine, but the soldiers were starting to develop psychosis from its long term use.

Previous attempts to ply the army with a mixture of opiates, meth and cocaine had ended disastrously. It was clear that a more scientific approach would be required.

In Sachsenhaused concentration camp 22 miles north of Berlin, the military found their answer. Here a socalled "shoe marching unit" had been established wherein hundreds of inmates were forcemarched around a track in order to test military footwear. Here between 17th and 20th November 1944, emaciated and malnourished inmates were instead given huge doses of cocaine, meth and opiates, and marched for 4 nights until in an attempt to record the most "effective" application.

The details of perverse torture are genuinely harrowing.
