This week marks the anniversary of Julius Caesar's assassination. On the Ides (15th) of March 44BC Caesar was stabbed 23 times by a group of Roman senators, some of whom called him friend. Why?

Surely one of history's greatest generals, a man who had enriched the people of Rome and enlarged the Empire, was worthy of praise and admiration from his fellow citizens?
