Why Your Sciatica Keeps Coming Back

Are you suffering with sciatica (sciatic nerve pain down the leg) and have tried many things only to find that you feel good temporarily, but your pain keeps coming back? This generally happens for 1 or 2 reasons: (1) Physically you could be doing something that’s "picking the scab" and keeping you from getting better. This could be sciatica exercises you’ve been told to do, or the way you sit. Knowingly or unknowingly, there is likely something hidden within your daily routine or habits that is making your pain worse. (2) Mentally, it’s also possible that the fear, worry, anxiety, and frustration you experience around solving this could be fueling your pain experience.

In this video, I dig in on the physical side of things... and show you the process you need to go through in order to identify what is physically picking the scab and keeping you from healing. I call this process Morphing Motions.

Step 1: Translate your diagnosis (that which you’re not an expert in)… things like Piriformis Syndrome, sciatica, herniated disc… into something easier to understand or relate to what you feel when you move your body. Once you make your diagnosis “real” by translating whatever is causing your back or sciatica pain into something that is tangible (in the sense of something you can see and feel) then you can better understand it.

Step 2: Morphing Motions. Ask yourself “How is this yucky motion showing up in my life?" For people with back and sciatica pains, the Straight Leg Raise test or motion is often painful and limited. And, while you may not care at all about this specific motion realize that it is showing up in your life in many ways. If you’re not aware of how this yucky motion shows up, you’ll continue to pick the scab and physically irritate your sciatic nerve (causing the pain to flare up and keep coming back).

Once you’ve identified how your yucky Leg Raise is showing up in life, then we can begin to formulate a plan and strategies to avoid or tweak those things...
