Join Rosalie Haizlett as she discusses her weeklong artist residency at the Roger Tory Peterson Institute that took place in May of 2023. Her exhibition, Wildwing: Paintings by Rosalie Haizlett, features works that Haizlett created based on her research of the Peterson collection. During this talk, Haizlett will discuss the aspects of Peterson's artwork and career that surprised her, and a behindthescenes look at the making of her watercolor and gouache paintings for Wildwing. She'll also introduce participants to a selection of living nature artists that she's currently inspired by.

Rosalie Haizlett is an illustrator who creates captivating paintings that celebrate the hidden wonders of the natural world. Haizlett has been an artistinresidence at Great Smoky Mountains National Park, with the National Audubon Society at Hog Island, and at the Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History. In 2022, she was awarded the Eckelberry Fellowship for distinguished wildlife illustrators. The author of Watercolor in Nature: Paint Woodland Wildlife and Botanicals with 20 BeginnerFriendly Projects and the forthcoming book Tiny Worlds of the Appalachian Mountains, she lives on the edge of Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia
