You've likely heard of the saying, "No pain, no gain." And perhaps you're currently taking this approach with the treatment of your sciatica (sciatic nerve pain) and/or piriformis pain. "It'll get worse before it gets better," was what one man shared with me yesterday. Not so fast! After working with thousands of people dealing with back, butt, and sciatica pain, I've found that doing things which make you feel worse in the moment usually result in you feeling worse in general. Treatments that "hurt so good", still hurt. And multiplying yucky inputs over time results in feeling... well... yucky.

The gentleman yesterday was told by his PT, massage therapist, and chiropractor that it wasn't uncommon for symptoms to get worse before they got better... and that he should expect to have increase pain following treatment. Interestingly, he was frustrated with his progress and treatment "wasn't working."

My recommendation to you, if you're operating under the belief of "No pain, no gain"... and it's not working, then perhaps it's worth revisiting and changing this belief.

Ask yourself the question "Is it possible that doing things which increase symptoms is the reason why I'm not improving?"

In my experience yes. Once yummy (good/safe inputs) exceed yucky inputs over time... your symptoms will begin to resolve. But consciously making the choice to multiply yucky could be one reason why you're not experiencing the relief you're looking for...
