It spelled disaster for eastern Washington farmers when a wildfire destroyed a critical wooden railroad trestle, at the peak of harvest season, on a stateowned shortline railroad that ships agriculture products to international markets. WSDOT pulled off the impossible to get shipments moving in less than two months over a brandnew steel and concrete bridge. AASHTO just recognized that accomplishment with a regional award for Operations Excellence.
