Winspace SLC 2.0 Alps build: 9/42 cassette dropper post oversize discs: Better downhill u0026 climbing

Here’s my latest project build. A bike inspired by the one Mohoric used to win the 2022 Milan San Remo, complete with 5cm dropper post and oversize discs.

Just back from my first full test ride which went so well I think this will now be my daily ride. (Update : have now sold my Trek Emonda disc bike !). The downhill performance was extraordinary, using between 1cm to 3cm of travel depending on the terrain more for tight hairpins and less for the straights.

The bike is also fitted with a climbing optimised gear set up. At the front it has a 5033 chainset and at the rear a 942 cassette. It’s all 11 speed apart from the 12 speed chain that improves shifting performance. The 3342 gear combination allows me high cadence pedalling (95 or more) for gradients of up to 10%.

I wondered whether the dropper post would be more of a gimmick, but already I love it and am using it on every downhill section. The steeper/bumpier/twistier the road, the more I drop the saddle. On the fast pedalling sections I’m usually in
the 50 front and 9 rear gear ratio (the equivalent of 6111 !!), when it is best to raise the saddle to full height or close, to optimise pedalling efficiency.

Here’s the full build spec :
