On May 11th, 2019 Bernard Haitink conducted a dazzling performance of Bruckner's Symphony #7 in what would become his final appearance with the Berlin Philharmonic. Emile Berliner Studios recorded the concert live, "DirecttoDisc" using three Josephson microphones plus a pair for "hall sound", with vacuum tube based microphone preamps into a vintage tubebased mixer directly feeding the cutting lathe that had been wheeled over to the Berlin Philharmonie.

The resulting deluxe 2 LP box set limited to 1884 copies (the year of the symphony's world premier) is about to be released. AnalogPlanet editor Michael Fremer contributed some notes to the box set book and so received an advance copy, which he unboxes here.
