Xiaomi Pro 2 is a wellknown commuter scooter by one of the most popular electric scooter brands.

The other one, NIU KQi2 Pro, is a fairly new player on the field. However, the company has manufactured over 2 million electric mopeds and just recently turned its attention to electric kick scooters.
The overall look of the scooters is very similar. But for me, the Niu scooter looks a bit more modern.

I like that most of the cabling of KQi2 is internally routed. It makes the look of the scooter more clean.

The Niu scooter is slightly bigger. The handlebar is higher and also wider. Also, the deck is higher from the ground.
Both scooters have a single motor of 300 watts. But there is actually one significant difference.

The Xiaomi scooter has a front hub motor, while the Niu scooter has a rear hub motor.

However, I didn’t feel any difference when riding.

The top speed is about 25 km/h or 16 mph for both scooters. They probably can go faster but the speed is limited to be legal in most countries.

Although the Niu scooter is heavier, it has much better acceleration. It took about 7 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 25 km/h.

For Xiaomi Pro 2, it took about 12 seconds to reach the same speed.

rly. Both scooters managed to climb this hill easily, but Niu KQi2 Pro was significantly faster.
We all know that manufacturer numbers about range can mean anything. So, I tested out the real range of both scooters.

Although the battery of Xiaomi Pro 2 has a bit bigger capacity, the range was pretty much the same.

I was riding both scooters on the same path and both scooters died in almost the same place.
However, the Niu KQi2 managed to ride a couple of hundred meters more.

The total distance I managed to cover with both scooters was 22 km.

Since the weight of the rider is a crucial factor in the range, I must add that I weigh about 88 kg, which is about 194 pounds.
Xiaomi has a rear disc brake and a front electric brake. Niu on the other hand has a front drum brake and rear electric brake.

Both scooters have one brake lever on the left.

Additionally, both scooters have regenerative braking.

Let’s see which scooter has a shorter stopping distance.

I accelerated both scooters to the 25 km/h speed and then tried to stop as quickly as possible.

Again, Niu outperformed Xiaomi quite clearly.

Both scooters have airfilled tires. However, the tires of the Niu scooter are bigger and wider. Since neither has a suspension, only tires can absorb bumps on uneven surfaces.

Neither scooter is particularly good on rough roads. But thanks to the bigger and wider tires, the ride quality of the Niu scooter is better.

Both scooters have a front headlight and rear light with the braking light feature.
In addition to that, the Niu scooter has a cool halo light at the front that is always turned on.
These lights do a pretty good job. Both scooters are well lit. You certainly won’t be unseen whichever scooter you use.

But if we compare the light beams, it seems that the headlight of the Niu KQi2 shows a bit further.
Both scooters can be folded down within a seconds.

So far, the Niu KQi2 has won almost every category.

But in terms of portability, we have to give the point to Xiaomi Pro 2.

The Xiaomi scooter is a bit smaller and weighs less. Therefore, it’s much easier to carry it around. And the Xiaomi scooter takes less room in the trunk.

However, if you want to, you can even fit both scooters into the trunk at the same time.

Last but not least, the price.

Both scooters seem to be priced similarly.

You can get the Niu KQi2 Pro directly from their eshop for $600 or €500 if you are in Europe. By the way, the shipping is free almost everywhere.

Xiaomi doesn’t have such a convenient online store for its electric scooters.

They have several retailers in different countries and the price varies from $400700.

So what did we learn from these tests?

For us, the Niu KQi2 is a quite clear winner.

It has a:
Faster acceleration
Better hill climbing
Shorter braking distance
Bigger wheels

Xiaomi Pro 2 is:
More lightweight
takes less storage room
And can be gotten with a cheaper price tag

But these advantages are very marginal.

Both are quality scooters, but if you ask us, we would suggest getting NIU KQi2 Pro.
