A scenario representative of the Eastern Front during World War 2 was acted out in the skies above Duxford, during the Imperial War Museum's Battle of Britain Airshow 2017.
Here we see the Aircraft Restoration Company's Hispano HA1112 M1L Buchon, GBWUE, taking the part of a Luftwaffe Messerschmitt Bf109 ( the Buchon is a Spanish license built Merlin engined variant of the Bf109), 'beating up' and 'strafing' the imaginary Soviet airfield accompanied by suitably loud pyrotechnics.
The 'defending' aircraft are a pair of 1994 Russian built Yakovlev YAK 3 fighters YAK 3M 'White 100', GCGXG (formerly DFJAK) flown by owner, Will Greenwood, and Yak 3UA, GOLEG (formerly DFLAK) flown by Richard Grace.
