This guided yoga class is physical therapy to heal your sciatica and low back pain at home from your yoga mat. The only prop you'll need is a massage ball or foam roller to perform myofascial release on the piriformis muscle. Sciatica can happen for many different reasons. Most commonly, sciatica is actually irritation of the lumbar nerve roots in the spine due to disc bulges or disc herniation. Frequently, however, the spine is perfectly healthy and the radiating pain shooting down the leg is from nerve entrapment in the tight muscles of the hip, namely the piriformis. This is commonly called piriformis syndrome and it irritates the sciatic nerve. Low back pain with sciatica can be healed at home with graded exercise and yoga, spinal mobility to hydrate and heal the spine, and myofascial release or foam rolling to relieve sciatic nerve entrapment sites. Additionally, this guided yoga class for sciatica and low back pain also uses sciatic nerve flossing or gliding techniques to mobilize and heal the irritated sciatic nerve.
