On Friday 21st June 2024 runway 23R/05L closed at Manchester Airport from 08:55 for over two hours as emergency maintenance was carried out.

This meant that runway 23L was used for both departures AND arrivals something that is rarely seen due to the logistics of arriving aircraft needing to turn and track back to be able to taxi to stand. This can cause delays of further inbound traffic and of course outbound traffic.
