8,000 miles from home in Bangalore, India, Erik Douds reaches out to the diabetes online community to hear our story about the COVID19 pandemic.

Twentyseven stories spanning the globe cut across societal norms as teachers, nurses, mothers, cyclists, strength coaches, graphic designers, filmmakers, singers, doctors, CEOs, and pen pals all impacted by a life managing diabetes chat over Zoom.

Eight months after recording, the Diabadass community comes together to give the first grant to performing artist, momma bear, and type 1 diabetic Qiana Drew to produce her debut song, "You Are Not Alone." She will be producing a full album with our collective help. Am I right?

If you are impacted by diabetes, here are a few places to find community:
1) #diabadass // #type1diabetes // #type2diabetes // #LADA // etc. enter into any social media platform
2) Beyondtype1.org // Beyondtype2.org // American Diabetes Association // JDRF // Connected in Motion (Canada) // Diabetes U.K. // and many more nonprofits
3) Wear swag that starts the conversation for you. Erik's picks: "diabetic" hoodie by Rob Howe at Diabetics Doing Things // Stickers designed by Santiago at The Diabetic Survivor // hilarious everything designed by Libby at The Sugars // someone design Diabadass gear for us // Highs & Lows apparel designed by Andrew Slyfox
4) Watch us on YouTube: subscribe to me (erikdouds) // Michelle Lorde // Nerdabetic // Andrew Slyfox // to name a few

Quotes from this film:

Jesse Lavine: Diabetes has trained me, my whole entire life, to adapt and handle adversity in ways that I feel I'm much more equipped to than my peers without diabetes.

Jordi: In any job or any challenging situation, maybe like diabetes or whatever, you do really have to advocate for yourself. Nobody's going to hand you the thing. You have to be the one to go and take the thing and stir the pot until somebody notices and then decides to help you. You really have to help yourself with your people that you trust. I feel like that's just all of life really. It's weird, ay?

Raquel Baron: I was not giving myself me time. I was getting so caught up in the busyness of life and really didn't take time to just have quiet and reflect and work on myself.

Sarah Mann: Sh*t's got real. [shoutout to all mothers]

Jesse Lavine: I know that I'm providing that for my friends and family. But up until last week let's say, why haven't I been providing that for myself?

Peter Friedfeld: So I'm all about change, bring it on. There'll be sunny days and storms, typhoons, rainbows, but change will be the constant.

Erik: Both the rascals have showed up.

Jordi: I am having a margarita because I'm fancy like that.

Rena: I would like to think about the people who don't have support at home.
