It's easy to feel defined by our limitations in art, but true freedom comes in letting yourself feel free to simply love the process, look for the beauty and trust that growth will come with time. Taking time to paint without a specific plan is one way of developing good instincts for composition and design, and I recommend it be a part of your painting practice on a regular basis. I paint an intuitive exploration painting at least once a week and many of these never turn into anything amazing, but they serve a purpose of setting my intention for a painting session, awakening my curiosity, prompting experimentation and risktaking, and helping me observe watercolor and become more responsive during the painting process.
