This year (2016) is the fiftieth anniversary of Miranda v. Arizona, a case that outlined the procedural safeguards of the Fifth Amendment. Because of the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in this case, a suspect must be given Miranda Warnings if their statements to police are to be used at trial.
