On April 12 1961, Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human to go into space. Since then humanity's horizons have expanded and astronauts have landed on the Moon, flown in the Space Shuttle, and lived on the International Space Station. Yuri Gagarin's achievement still stands as one of the great firsts in history that began a new age for human exploration.
