The ZGMF/A42S2 Destiny Gundam Spec II is an upgrade of the old ZGMFX42S Destiny Gundam, equipped with various new technologies to enhance its combat performance. Its colors have been slightly altered due to the increased strength of the Variable Phase Shift Armor, and it now uses a modern panoramic cockpit.

One significant feature of the Destiny Spec II is its ability to use the Deuterion Beam Energy Transfer System from its forehead to recharge the energy of allied mobile suits such as the ZGMF56E2/α Force Impulse Gundam Spec II. Additionally, the Destiny Spec II has a new inner frame capable of improved performance, which glows bright red at maximum power output.
